King David had a powerful notion of the omnipresence of God. "Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence?" (Psalm 139) And yet, he couldn't always see or sense the love of God. "How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever?" (Psalm 13) It's comforting to know that even the saints of old experienced this tension between the "here and now" and the "not yet," the kingdom among us and the kingdom beyond us. It's in the reality of this human condition that St. Patrick prayed his well-known prayer over 1500 years ago--that the living, healing presence of Christ would show up everywhere, behind us, before us, beneath us, and above us. Through these songs, we join into this ancient prayer, that in Christ, we might be shielded, saturated, and surrounded.

From Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever! Amen.
